Biodiversity Finance Program Workshop BIOFIN

The General Investment Authority participated in the Biodiversity Finance Program Workshop for the preparation of the Seventh National Biodiversity Report (BIOFIN), organized by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Yemen. The workshop discussed methods and mechanisms for identifying sources that can be used as key entry points for mobilizing financial resources allocated for biodiversity. Key sources of funding for biodiversity in the country were identified, including: government funding, international donor funds, grants from international and regional NGOs, innovative financing (payment for environmental services mechanisms, environmental fees, and tax incentives), and partnerships with the private sector.

The workshop also discussed the most important national and strategic policies that will be implemented in the coming years and that may impact biodiversity, as well as the anticipated challenges facing the program’s implementation. It also recommended the participation of ministries, agencies, and institutions that must be adopted to achieve the goal, including: the Ministry of Water (the General Authority for Environmental Protection), the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Fisheries, the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (private sector), universities, scientific research centers, and civil society organizations.

The event will be held at the General Authority for Environmental Protection building on August 28, 2025
